Equality between men and women in occupation and employment

The committee for women's rights and gender equality of the European Parliament voted on the report on the application of the directive on the implementation of equal treatment of men and women in matters of occupation on Tuesday 16 June 2015. The members of the committee adopted the report by 24 votes in favour, 2 votes against and 6 abstentious.

With the reports on the application of EU law Parliament assesses how certain directives are implemented in the member states. This draft report concerns the directive 2006/54/EC about 'the implementation of the principle of equal opportunities and equal treatment of men and women in matters of employment and occupation'. It affects several topics, such as equal pay, equal treatment in occupational social security schemes and prohibition of discrimination. The report takes up these topics and criticises that although most of the member states implemented legislation according to EU law, the European Commission has not monitored the implementation sufficiently.
