Estimation of girls at risk of female genital mutilation

Published:

The European Institute for Gender Equality (EIGE) has published a report on “the estimation of girls at risk of female genital mutilation in the European Union”. The report aims to implement a new methodological approach, which is tested with the three pilot countries, Portugal, Ireland and Sweden and proposes that it should be used in all other countries of the European Union.

On the basis of these results recommendations for FGM policy making, such as to raise awareness to this topic, “to sensitise and encourage men to stand up against FGM” and “to implement a better coordination of actors involved in the child protection system”, are made.
