Lifelong Learning Week – Media Literacy as key for Participative Democracy and Intercultural Dialogue

Published:

From 1 to 4 December the European Civil Society Platform on Lifelong Learning (EUCIS-LLL) organised the Lifelong Learning week in Brussels. During the week several topics, such as ‘education in promoting intercultural dialogue and citizenship’, ‘the role of guidance and counselling in taking validation forward’ and ‘media literacy a XXI century challenge’ were discussed. The action week aimed to raise awareness to the importance of lifelong learning and the ‘need to adopt a holistic and democratic approach at all levels of decision making, implementation and evaluation’.

ETUCE contributed to the action event ‘How digital learning environments can enhance learning outcomes and the panel discussion on ‘learning in a digital era: how to close the gap?’.  This action was mainly organised by the Liaison agency Flanders Europe (VLEVA) and speakers of the event were, Godelieve Van den Brande, from DG Employment and Social Affairs of the European Commission and Marco Marsella, from DG Connect of the European Commission.

Another event was the expert debate on media literacy which highlighted the challenges education staff is confronted with, due to increasing online harassment against teachers and pupils and the pressure that learners acquire skills such as basic knowledge in coding.
