EU Strategy on Equality between Men and Women was saved

Published:

The EU strategy on equality between men and women was saved – thanks to the comprehensive collective actions of trade unions and civil society organisations. ETUCE had informed its member organisation ETUCE website at the end of November, notifying them about the plans of the European Commission to adopt the new strategy for equality between women and men not as a communication but as a staff working document. The member organisations were asked to contact their national ministries in charge, in order to increase the pressure on the European Commission and the European Council. The action was a success as the Employment, Social Policy, Health and Consumer Affairs Council (EPSCO) adopted a conclusion calling the European Commission to adopt the strategy for equality between women and men as a communication, thus providing a long-term policy-framework and ensuring that the European Commission and every other European Institution implements the strategy.
