Major anti trade union intellectual “awards” Malta Union of Teachers

In a blog article “We don’t need no education” published by The Malta Independent on 28 September 2016, Dr. Andrew Azzopardi “awarded” the Malta Union of Teachers (MUT) with a Certificate of Excellence which confirms “a well-known fact that the minister is more concerned that an initiative is approved by the MUT council than by the Cabinet of Ministers!”

MUT, the first trade union registered in Malta, represents more than 7000 teachers of all grades in the public and private sectors. And Dr. Andrew Azzopardi, a Senior Lecturer at the University of Malta, as well as a broadcaster and blogger, is a loyal “fan” of the MUT “intrusion” into the education system of Malta. Short on staff and overwhelmed with work, a small Secretariat of MUT considers it a big achievement to be recognized as “one of the most effective and active unions around” by one of the major anti trade union intellectuals in Malta. It appreciates that Dr. Azzopardi “understands” that trade union’s work is not only about teachers’ rights but also about “the way our schools operate” and education as a whole.
