New EIGE Glossary on Gender Sensitive Terms is now online

Published:

EIGE (European Institute for Gender Equality) has released its “Gender Equality Glossary and Thesaurus”, which provides definitions and sources for words and terms related to gender equality.

The tool has been developed for everybody to look up and  understand small, but important differences in terminology. It promotes awareness and understanding of gender sensitive terms. The data base also aims to tackle terms which reinforce stereotyping by suggesting a preferred terminology. The tool does not only come in handy for individual users, also policy adviser, researchers, university students and civil society organisations can streamline the use of terminology.

The Gender Equality Glossary and Thesaurus is currently accessible only in English. It is soon to be published also in French, German and Spanish and later made available in all official EU languages. It is to be continuously improved and revised, hence further contributions are welcome.
