Belarus: International workshop on active trade unionism among youth

On 22-23 May 2017, the workshop “Trade union and Youth – Together. Together to future!” was organised in Minsk under the auspices of the Belarussian Trade Union of Education and Science, BTUWES, ETUCE member organisation in Belarus. Representatives from 15 ETUCE member organisations in Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Lithuania, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Slovenia, Tajikistan and Ukraine participated in the event.

During the two-day event, the participants had the opportunity to meet with BTUWES members, members of the Primary trade union organisation of students, the Youth Council, the City trade union organisation, the representative of the Ministry of Education, the Confederation President and the Pro-rector of the Belarussian State University.

The visits of the of the Belarussian State University and Minsk secondary school no 61 were organised by the Belarussian union to deepen the sister organisations’ knowledge on the active work carried out by the union in the field of youth.

ETUCE European Director, Susan Flocken, gave a presentation on the ETUCE structures and activities to the students and stressed the importance of youth active engagement in the trade union work. Aleksandr Boiko, BTUWES President, said, “Youth is our future. Without youth the trade union movement will fade”.
