Moldova: Some positive achievements in the education sector

Published:

Following the call for action launched by ETUCE among its member organisations to support the Education and Science Trade Union Federation of Moldova (ESTUFM) late April 2017, on behalf of the union, Dumitru Ivanov, ESTUFM President, expressed his gratitude to all ETUCE member organisations that addressed  Moldovan authorities in solidarity with the education personnel in the country.

We would like to thank all ETUCE member organisations that sent letters of solidarity to support our struggle in raising education personnel’s wages. This has had an effect. The Moldovan authorities promised to identify new solutions to the situation in the aftermath of the state budget rectification procedure to be held in July 2017”, said ESTUFM President.

Moreover, the union reported that non-didactic workers received a monthly supplement of 100 lei (around € 5,00) and a 10% increase in salaries starting from 1 October 2017. As from 1 September 2017 teachers’ salaries are to be increased by 5%.

Although the union acknowledges the low increase, it intends to continue putting pressure on the government in light of the state budget rectification procedure.

We are now talking on concrete terms, for example in July we will discuss  financial sources for a bigger and substantial salary increase for education personnel. Should promises not be fulfilled, we will organise protest actions”, concluded Dumitru Ivanov.
