Dushanbe: Conference on the role of education trade union in social partnership

On 29-30 June 2017, Christine Blower, ETUCE President, and Susan Flocken, European Director, took part in the conference “The Role of Trade Union in Realisation of Social Partnership” in Dushanbe, Tajikistan. The conference was organised under the auspices of the Trade Union of Education and Science of Republic Tajikistan, TUESRT, ETUCE member organisation in Tajikistan. Dozens of representatives from region and oblast trade union organisations, higher education institutions as well as representatives from the Tajik Ministry of Education and Science participated in the conference.

Over the course of the two-day conference the participants were introduced to the history of the country, the education trade union’s activities and the tripartite social dialogue in Tajikistan and learned about  preconditions of the successful tripartite social dialogue and the European social dialogue presented by ETUCE European Director, Susan Flocken.

ETUCE member organisation in Kazakhstan, the Kazakhstan branch Trade Union of Education and Science Workers, KTUESW, shared information about its activities.

TUESRT also organised the visit to the Russian-Tajik Slavic University which was established on 5 April in 1996. The university functions under the joint jurisdiction of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Russian Federation.

When addressing the participants, Susan Flocken emphasised the continued fruitful cooperation with the Tajik education trade union. She also stressed the union’s strong commitment to actively engage in ETUCE following the transfer of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan from the EI Asia-Pacific Region to the European Region.
