On 14 March 2018, more than 90% of all public kindergartens, boarding schools and schools is to take part in the general strike which is planned to be organised by the Education, Science and Culture Trade Union of Slovenia (ESTUS), ETUCE member organisation in Slovenia.

This time, according to ESTUS, the education institutions that did not vote for a strike initially will join this action. Teachers and education personnel from primary to higher education will participate in rallies in eleven districts across Slovenia.

ESTUS highlights the latest data on the growth of the average wages in individual public sectors shows that the disparities in the detriment of employees in education and training have further deepened. The average wage in Slovenia increased by 2.65% last year, in education by only 1.69%, in health care by 3.13% and in state administration by 4%.

Susan Flocken, ETUCE European Director, said «ETUCE strongly believes that decent working conditions and remuneration for the high quality work that teachers and other education personnel perform every day should never be underestimated and neglected”.
