Turkish media spotlights EI/ETUCE strong resentment over the witch-hunt in the Turkish education sector

Turkish media supported the strong voice of education trade unions’ solidarity in the aftermath of the second EI/ETUCE Mission to Ankara, Turkey. The local media reports highlighted the Turkish authorities’ unwillingness to meet with the mission delegation in order to put an end to the ongoing violation and prosecutions of Turkish education  personnel.

In the frame of the mission, the EI/ETUCE delegation met with representatives of the Delegation of the European Union to Turkey, ILO, UNICEF and with officials of various embassies in Ankara.

We gather here to send a clear message to the Turkish government and the international community that teachers in Turkey have the full support of their colleagues, teachers, academics and other education personnel in Europe and in the world. We stand together for the respect of democratic values, human and trade union rights, including quality education for democratic citizenship, tolerance, respect of diversity and mutual understanding” said Susan Flocken, ETUCE European Director.

The second EI/ETUCE Mission to Ankara the ultimate goal of which was to strengthen and reconfirm education trade unions’ solidarity with the Turkish education community took place on 27-28 February 2017.
