In addition to meetings with educational social partners and stakeholders, FNE’s trade unions organized events in various Portuguese municipalities, seminars and lecture cycles on teaching conditions, painting of murals by students, teachers, parents and non-teachers, an Education Summit in Praia da Vitoria, in the Azores Archipelago, in the North Atlantic, and a commemorative ceremony that involved the displaying of the flag allusive to the World Teacher's Day in hundreds of schools and in townships of the whole country.

In this special celebration of the importance of the role of all teachers and educators from all over the world, a special mention was made of the ILO / UNESCO Recommendation on the Status of Teachers (1966) and the UNESCO Recommendation concerning the Status of Higher Education Teaching Personnel (1997), which completes 20 years in 2017. These two instruments are of extreme relevance, as complemented by the ILO (International Labour Organization) Policy Guidelines on the Promotion of Decent Work for Early Childhood Education Personnel define the true international standards for the teaching profession.
