Published:

Today, on 14 February 2018, ETUCE member organisation, the Union of Education, Science and Culture of Kosovo (SBASHK), is organising a strike due to the absence of implementation of the six points contained in the agreement signed between SBASHK, the Assembly President of the Republic of Kosovo and the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo on 5 June 2017.

In solidarity with tis member organisation, ETUCE joins the demands of SBASHK and repeats the six points that remain to be implemented:

  • with the Government and Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo coming into power, the full implementation of the new Collective Agreement on Education, signed on 18 April 2017;
  • the draft Law of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology on the status of education personnel of ‘90s is to be processed in the Assembly;
  • the Labour Law is to be amended taking into account suggestions made by SBASHK;
  • the introduction of the draft Law on salaries in education sector taking into account SBASHK’s proposals; consultation and involvement of trade union representatives when preparing the draft state budget;
  • the implementation of the Law on health insurance.

Susan Flocken, European Director of ETUCE, said “Quality education can be provided by virtue of continuous and direct involvement of those who represent the profession. Decent working conditions including decent salaries are a prerequisite for quality education which in turn is a responsibility of each Government. ETUCE believes that the government officials in the Republic of Kosovo will urgently fulfil the conditions of the signed agreement with SBASHK”.
