Russia: Conference on tackling violence in education

On the initiative of the Education and Science Employees' Union of Russia (ESEUR), ETUCE member organisation in Russia, a conference on "Violence in the Educational Environment: Causes - Trends of Exacerbation - Solutions " was held with the support of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation on 4 April 2018.

Government officials, representatives from the Ministry of the Interior, education authorities, heads of education organisations, parents’ and students’ communities, non-profit organisations, as well as teachers, scientists, psychologists, and mass media representatives attended the conference.

In her speech, Galina Merkulova, ESEUR President, stressed, “It is evident, that we cannot defend teachers’ interests separately. We have gathered here various actors of school life, such as students, parents, scientists, school leadership and activists of non-profit organisations because we all make a part of this process”.

ETUCE European Director, Susan Flocken, emphasised that each country should elaborate strategies to respond to violence in education. She added, “ETUCE is committed to end workplace violence and harassment through the prevention of violence in education institutions as a whole. It is important not only to combat it but also to raise awareness on its impact”.
