school leavETUCE monitors the EU policy on Early School Leaving and the implementation of benchmarks of the EU2020 flagship initiative on early school leaving. Teachers, school leaders and educational staff have key role in combating against early school leaving.

Membership

ETUCE is represented in the Open Method of Coordination Working Group of the European Commission on Early School Leaving and continue the active membership in this group. ETUCE Circular 2/2014: Collaboration on school policies to fight early school leaving reports on the work in the working group.

ETUCE was an active participant on a working group of stakeholder organisations of the European Commission working on early childhood education and care and early school leaving. ETUCE Circular 2/2012: Early Childhood Education and Care and Early School Leaving reports on the work in the working group.

Policy

ETUCE Statement on the Proposal for a Council Recommendation on Early School Leaving (2011) underlines that sustainable investment to education and enhancing teachers' competences by initial and continuous professional development are essential in order to deal with pupils at risk of drop-out

Project

ETUCE carried out the project on using ICT in education to prevent early school leaving (ELFE-ESL) between November 2011 and April 2014.  ICT&ESL: Teacher Unions preventing early school leaving through the use of ICT in education resulted in ETUCE Practical Guidelines on How to Prevent Early School Leaving through the Use of ICT in Education (2014).
