Social Dialogue

Social dialogue is an essential part of the European social model. The role and prerogatives of European social partners, as part of the EU lawmaking system, are defined in the Treaties, under articles 154-155 TFEU. There exist a EU cross-sectoral Social Dialogue Committee, where ETUCE participates are member of the European Trade Union Confederation, and several sectoral committees. The European Sectoral Social Dialogue Committee in Education was created in 2010 by ETUCE and the European Federation of Education Employers (EFEE). Social dialogue in the education sector covers activities related to pre-primary education, primary, secondary and higher education, other education (tutoring, language learning, etc.), and educational support activities. More than 17 million workers are employed in the education sector, which amounts to 9% of the labour force in the EU.
