Russia: Conference on tackling violence in education

On the initiative of the Education and Science Employees' Union of Russia (ESEUR), ETUCE member organisation in Russia, a conference on "Violence in the Educational Environment: Causes - Trends of Exacerbation - Solutions " was held with the support of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation on 4 April 2018.

Government officials, representatives from the Ministry of the Interior, education authorities, heads of education organisations, parents’ and students’ communities, non-profit organisations, as well as teachers, scientists, psychologists, and mass media representatives attended the conference.

In her speech, Galina Merkulova, ESEUR President, stressed, “ It is evident, that we cannot defend teachers’ interests separately. We have gathered here various actors of school life, such as students, parents, scientists, school leadership and activists of non-profit organisations because we all make a part of this process”.

ETUCE European Director, Susan Flocken, emphasised that each country should elaborate strategies to respond to violence in education. She added, “ ETUCE is committed to end workplace violence and harassment through the prevention of violence in education institutions as a whole. It is important not only to combat it but also to raise awareness on its impact”.
