ETUCE Calls for a Standalone FP10 to Safeguard Public-Interest Research
Published:
On 9 May 2025, ETUCE addressed a letter to Ekaterina Zaharieva, European Commissioner for Startups, Research and Innovation, urging the European Commission to maintain Framework Programme 10 (FP10) as a standalone, dedicated programme for research and innovation.
Representing teachers, researchers and academics across Europe, ETUCE warns against merging FP10 into a broader competitiveness fund. Such a move, the letter argues, would undermine the programme’s core mission: to support independent, publicly funded research that serves society as a whole, not just economic interests.
ETUCE also calls for strengthened support for the European Research Council (ERC), protection of academic freedom, and a focus on basic and frontier research.
The organisation joins voices from across the research community, echoing the Warsaw Declaration and recent recommendations from the European Parliament.
