2nd Training Seminar
On 18-19 June 2019, European social partners in education met in Larnaca, Cyprus, for the second and last training seminar in the framework of the ETUCE-EFEE project ‘European Sectoral Social Partners in Education promoting effective integration of migrants and refugees in education’, organised with the support of ETUCE member organisation OELMEK, as project partner in the country. Education trade unions and employers’ organisations from Southern and Central-Eastern European countries gathered to identify the barriers preventing migrant and refugee children to access quality education and to exchange best practice examples on enhancing the children’s inclusion in schools and their educational experience. Education social partners exchanged on the limited financial and training support to the education personnel who has to ensure the inclusion of children in the classroom, on the best way of organising the education systems to cater for migrant and refugee children’s needs, on the use of mother tongue as a vehicle for learning, as well as on the importance of synergies developed among different actors. Participants to the seminar were joined by representatives from Red Cross EU, COFACE Families Europe, Eurochild and EPSU EU-CARE Network, who enriched the debate by exchanging on their work on the matter.
