ETUCE Stands in Solidarity with Education Workers in Moldova
The European Trade Union Committee for Education (ETUCE) has expressed its solidarity with the Education and Science Trade Union Federation of the Republic of Moldova (FSEȘ) and education workers across Moldova following concerns over the implementation of previously announced salary increases for teachers, researchers, and other education personnel.
In a letter addressed to the Moldovan authorities, ETUCE highlighted the importance of ensuring fair remuneration, decent working conditions, and attractive career prospects for education workers. The organisation stressed that investment in teachers and education personnel is essential to addressing recruitment and retention challenges and to securing high-quality public education.
ETUCE also recognised the protest action planned by FSEȘ on 19 August 2026 as a legitimate expression of trade union concerns and reaffirmed its support for education workers exercising their democratic and trade union rights.
The letter recalls the strong cooperation between ETUCE and FSEȘ, including the joint organisation of the InclEdu4AllNeeds Final Conference in Moldova earlier this year, where ETUCE welcomed Dan Perciun, Minister of Education and Research, and was encouraged by the constructive dialogue with national authorities. ETUCE therefore called on the Moldovan government to continue engaging in meaningful social dialogue with FSEȘ and to work towards fulfilling commitments made to education workers.
ETUCE reiterated that respect for social dialogue and collective bargaining, alongside adequate investment in public education, are essential for building resilient and inclusive education systems. The organisation remains committed to supporting FSEȘ and education workers in Moldova in their efforts to secure fair pay, decent working conditions, and a strong public education system for all. ETUCE stands firmly alongside FSEȘ and education workers in Moldova and calls for continued constructive social dialogue to address their concerns.
