ETUCE is inviting applications for external research expertise on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and education under the EU-funded project "Balancing AI in EDU". The call for tenders is open from 7 January to 7 February 2025 (midnight, Brussels time).
Project Background
The project, running from 1 January 2025 to 31 December 2026, addresses the increasing use of AI in education and its implications for teachers and education personnel. While AI offers significant opportunities, it also poses challenges such as workload impact, professional autonomy concerns, and gaps in institutional strategies. Current regulations fail to fully address these challenges, making education trade union involvement essential.
Key Objectives of the Project:
- Map existing AI policies in education at European and national levels, focusing on trade union involvement.
- Analyze AI's impact on teachers’ working conditions, pedagogical practices, and work-life balance.
- Assess regulatory measures and collective agreements addressing AI's influence on the education sector.
- Strengthen trade unions' capacity for collective bargaining and advocacy on AI and education.
Role of the Subcontractor
The subcontractor will provide high-level research expertise, assisting ETUCE with:
- Conducting a desk research to map existing policies and challenges in AI and education.
- Designing and managing an online survey targeting ETUCE member organizations to gather insights on AI policies and practices.
- Preparing a comprehensive research report (60-70 pages) summarizing findings, complemented by a 2-3 page executive summary.
- Supporting project activities, including presentations and participation in workshops and conferences.
Specific Tasks Include:
- Drafting and analyzing survey results.
- Conducting in-depth desk research on AI policies and their impact.
- Developing an online repository for survey results.
- Participating in Steering Group meetings and project activities.
Project Deliverables and Timeline
The subcontractor will deliver the research outcomes according to a predefined schedule, with close collaboration with the ETUCE Steering Group. Key milestones include:
- Completion of the survey design and analysis.
- Presentation of findings at project events.
- Submission of the final research report and executive summary.
