The European Sectoral Social Partners in Education are proud to announce the publication of the second case study report from the APRES COVID project, focusing on Portugal. This milestone document delves into the psychosocial risks in the education sector during and after the COVID-19 pandemic, offering critical insights into the challenges faced by teachers, school leaders, and education personnel.

The report highlights findings from two vocational education and training (VET) school visits and a multistakeholder meeting, where education trade unions, employers, government representatives, and parent associations came together to discuss tangible ways forward. This collaboration underscores the importance of addressing mental health and well-being in education while fostering partnerships for an equitable recovery.

In addition to the report, we are thrilled to release a compelling video documenting the case study. This video brings to life the voices of teachers, school leaders, and other stakeholders interviewed during the visit, providing a vivid snapshot of their experiences, challenges, and recommendations. Through their stories, the video offers an authentic look at how the pandemic reshaped education in Portugal and the efforts being made to support teachers and students alike.

Key Highlights:

  • The detailed report covers the systemic and individual challenges, including teacher shortages, increased workloads, and the impact of rapid digitalisation.
  • The video features interviews with key stakeholders, sharing their firsthand perspectives on navigating the pandemic and its aftermath.
  • The case study sheds light on the importance of multistakeholder dialogue and cooperation to enhance mental health and work-life balance in the education sector.

This report and video are essential resources for anyone invested in shaping a sustainable and supportive education system. Together, they offer valuable lessons not only for Portugal but for the broader European education community.
