On 6 and 7 March 2019, Egitim Sen organises international symposium “Education Trade Unions, Rights, Freedoms and Governance” in Ankara, Turkey.

Around 25 representatives from member organisations, including from Cyprus, Denmark, the Netherlands, France, Germany, Greece, the United Kingdom and the USA are to contribute to comprehensive discussions and share good practices on, among other things, education policies and governance.

A panel discussion, featuring Rob Copeland, Chair to the ETUCE Standing Committee for Higher Education and Research and UCU representatives is to take place on issues related to higher education institutions, academic freedoms and trade unions.

Taking the opportunity to take part in the event, the international delegation headed by David Edwards, EI General Secretary and Susan Flocken, ETUCE European Director, will meet with representatives from the Delegation of the European Union to Turkey.

Freedom of expression, the right to organise and to bargain collectively along with fundamental human rights including women’s rights are not a reality for many of our colleagues in Turkey. With our participation to the symposium, we express our  solidarity with our colleagues, teachers and unionists, who remain victims of the repressive regime and the derailing education policy in the country”, said Susan Flocken, ETUCE European Director.
